License, Registration and the Cup

The first game of Draft League Season 16 was a matchup between A Dunngo Ate My Baby and Red Dawn. RD's Skaggs opened the scoring in the 1st which was matched by ADAMB's Hatchuel. In the 2nd Rich Wagner scored for RD to make it to 2-1 before Skaggs scored again in the 3rd to make the final 3-1. The next game was the gameof the night between Gong Show and Unfinished Business. After a scoreless 1st Emilo and Kudrick scored in the 2nd for GS and keeper Cuocci did the rest keeping UB off of the scoreboard without the team's 2nd round pick for a 2-0 final. The 3rd game between top seeded Good Cop-Bad Cop and Pass/Fail was supposed to be a blowout on paper but the game turned out to be far from that. Houston opened the scoring for GCBC in the first which was followed by goals from Colaluca and Gleeson for a 3-0 lead. Zimmerman got PF on the board late in the 2nd to make it 3-1 after 2. That score continued until PF pulled their goalie and capitalized in the last minute on a goal from Benson tho they couldn't net the equalizer in the 3-2 final. The last game of the night featured 1st place Yellow Bedwetter vs. Sexual Chocolate. Popkin opened the scoring for YB and the only goal of the 1st period. Douglass scored for SC to tie the score at 1 after the 2nd. SC had goals in the 3rd from Wilt and Joey Dunn for a 3-1 lead. A latePP goal form Denny Clark made the score 3-2 but that was all that YB could muster without their captain, Young, who was a late scratch and SC moved on.

Round 2 started off with a thriller between Red Dawn and Sexual Chocolate. Hines and Roginski scored 1st period goals to stake RD to a 2-0 lead after 1. Wilt scored a PP goal in the 1st minute of period 2 and another goal with 10 seconds left in the period to tie the score at 2 after 2. The teams battled in the 3rd but the score remained the same and off to OT they went. Keepers Bender for SC and Petron for RD kept the game tied at 2 and teams went to a 2nd OT where Joey Dunn lit the lamp on a pass from Wilt to send last place SC onto the finals. The 2nd semifinal game featured Good Cop-Bad Cop vs the Gong Show. Fitz scored for GCBC to give them a 1-0 lead after the first. Gleesonscored in the 2nd for GCBC for a 2-0 lead after 2. Emilo tightened the game in the 3rd with a goal before Fitz tallied again for the 3-1 final to send GCBC to the championship game.

The finals were a matchup of the season's favorite (Good Cop-Bad Cop)vs the last place/underdog, team (Sexual Chocolate) for the Cup. SC was a team peaking at the perfect time of the season and managed to score the first goal of the game in the first on a goal by Wilt from Joey Dunn. The teams battled to a scoreless 2nd as GCBC was continuously frustrated by goaltender Bender of SC. A little over halfway through the 3rd GCBC finally broke through with a goal from the league's top goal scorer Denne on a great pass from Steve Fitz and the game was tied. After some great forechecking from Holtzman, team captain Houston had the ball at the point and made a pinpoint pass to Barrett for the one timer and Cup winning goal. GCBC had to dig deep to beat a strong and stubborn SC team 2-1.

Post season awards went as follows: Playoff MVP went to Steve Fitz of GCBC, most valuable player for SC was Micheal Bender and MVG went to TJ Howell from GCBC. Regular season awards went to Jake Denne with 11 goals and Denne again with 15 points (edged the Commish by 1) Goalie awards went to TJ Howell of GCBC and John Cuocci with 7 wins each and Cuocci with a 1.44 GAA for the season. Thanks for another successful and competitive season and I look forward to draft season 17 already underway. Can Smashking Bumpkins lead the Payne Train to his 1st WED Cup finally???
