Won and Dunn wins Summer Draft League Title in OT

The first game of the playoffs had Marshall Law against a Strugg-a-ling squad missing 3 of their first 4 players drafted. ML was never really challenged in a 4-1 victory on goals by Houston, Holland, Fish and Cuocci with the lone tally from SAL scored by captain Howdeshell. The second game was even more of a lopsided affair between Smell My Glove and Swine Flu. SMG scored early and often in the 6-1 victory and had 2 goals each from Barrett, Fitz and Mahtesian with the lone SF goal scored by captain Freimann. The 3rd game of the night between Won and Dunn and The Skias the Limit was the best match up on paper and lived up to it's hype. After offsetting goals by Dunner fro WAD and Young for TSTL the teams traded quality chances before Lewis notched the game winner and Petron made it stand. The last game of the night was between 1st place Anger Management and last place Red Meat. AM scored early and often against RM with a hat trick from one of the league favorites Kevin Fay as well as goals from Wilson (2) and Hines. RM countered with goals from Beck (2) and Hawk. The sweep by the one power division was the first in league history.

The second round of the playoffs started out with a match up between 1st place Anger Management and last place Won and Dunn. WAD came ready to play with early goals from Kourt and Turner and were matched by AM with goals from Jacob and a PP goal from Hines. WAD took the game over from there with goals from Douglass, Lewis and a 2nd goal by Turner for the final of 5-2. In the other game, Smell My Glove went up against Marshall Law whose teams had split blowouts in their first 2 games against each other. This game was no different as SMG controlled most of the game with a balanced attack on goals from Marwaha (2), Mahtesian, Fitz and Barrett. ML's goal was scored by team captain Popkin.

The finals between Smell My Glove and Won and Dunn was a much anticipated final between 2 teams with run and gun offenses and the teams, due to scheduling from rainouts, were set to play each other for the 3rd time in a month. WAD jumped all over SMG from the opening faceoff and Turner scored on the 2nd shift of the game for a 1-0 lead. Kourt scored for WAD and Marwaha for SMG before WAD took the game over on 2 goals from R. Wagner and a 4-1 lead heading into the 3rd period in what looked like a blowout. SMG adjusted during the 2nd intermission and came out strong in the 3rd with goals from Mahtesian as well as a PP goal from Barrett to narrow the lead to 4-3. Once again the captain of SMG, Mahtesian, would strike again late in the 3rd to tie the game up. On the game tying goal WAD's Douglass got thrown out of the game for conduct ruled unacceptable by ref Norman and the wheels were falling off for WAD. Petron held the fort for WAD in regulation with quite a few big saves to send the game to OT. The teams traded a few chances in OT before Turner made a move around a dman and rifled a shot into the corner for the championship goal and the celebration ensued for WAD. This game was an instant classic already seen on the espn the ocho. Captain Dunner received the Cup for his 1st as a captain. Congrats to playoff MVP Turner from WAD as well as MVG also from WAD Petron and MVP Barrett from SMG.

Congrats to the regular season leaders as well. League rookie McBride from Marshall Law led the league with 20 points, Wilson from Anger Managment led in goals with 15. Dipasquale from Anger Management led goalies in both wins (7) and GAA (1.67) Thanks for another great season and good luck to everyone in the new season.
