Beware of the Stingrays at Seminary:

The D2 playoffs started out with the 8 vs 9 play in game between Heavy Breathers and Blues Brothers. This game was a complete blowout from the opening face off as BB's got goals from Eidelkind, Kourt, Giannotti and Kourt again in the 1st for a 4-0 lead after one frame. Skiavo scored for HB's but that was it for them as BB's scored 3 more times on goals from Agostinelli, Long and Billeb to win 7-1 and advance to play the top seeded Fury an hour later. The BB's were warmed up and ready to knock off the top seed as the teams played a scoreless 1st. The F got on the board first on a goal from Lanave which was matched by a PPG from Bowser of the BB's and teams headed to the 3rd tied at 1. The F's Miller scored on a long shot from the point 6 minutes into the 3rd and the BB's couldn't manage to tie the score even though they dominated the period and the F escaped with a 2-1 victory. The next game had the 2nd seeded Mantis against the 7th seeded Group Therapy. M struck first on a goal from Ulner for a 1-0 lead after the first. GT dominated the 2nd period with 3 goals from Martin(2) and Yanchus to take over the game 3-1. In the 3rd, Satterly scored for M to bring them within a goal before Matsov iced the game with 3 minutes left for a 4-2 win over the 2nd seed. Seeds 4 vs 5 featured the Stingrays vs Shock and Awe. SNA scored first in the 2nd period on a goal from Boersma which gave them a 1-0 lead heading to the 3rd. The SR's Vivirito got on the board halfway through the 3rd and they scored again with 5 minutes left in the game on a PPG from Duggan for a 2-1 victory. The last game of the night featured the 3rd seeded Iced Out vs the 6th seeded Loud Mouths. Doyle got the LM's on the scoresheet first and a 1-0 lead after one. IO scored the next two goals from McIlwain and Fasani before the LM's Claude tied the game up at 2 after the 2nd. Hatchuel gave the LM's the lead 2 minutes into the 3rd and Leitschuh iced the game with 6 minutes left for a 4-2 victory.

In the semi's the top seeded Fury faced off against the 7th seeded Group Therapy. The F struck first on a goal from Byrd for a 1-0 lead after one. The 2nd period was all F as they won the game with goals from Byrd again, Miller and Rice for a 4-0 victory behind a shutout from Dipasquale. The other game featured the 4th seeded Stingrays vs the 6th seeded Loud Mouths. The SR's scored first on a goal from league veteran Fish for a 1-0 lead after one. The SR's had the only goals of the 2nd as well on tallies from Vivirito(2) and Topercer for a 4-0 lead which stood behind the goaltending of Erb. In the finals, the top seeded Fury were seeking their first league championship after years of rebuilding and hard work against the Stingrays who are always in the D2 mix. The SR's struck first on a goal from Fiorello for a 1-0 lead after one. The F got on the board early in the 2nd on a goal from Marty "the Ball Hawk" Willis followed by a goal from Byrd with 30 seconds left for a 2-1 lead heading into the 3rd. Halfway through the 3rd the F felt in control and ready for their first D2 Cup but Viviritto of the SR's scored with just over 5 minutes left to tied the game at 2. The F seemed a bit rattled after the goal and the SR's struck with a little over a minute left in the game as Denne netted the D2 championship goal and another SR's championship with a 3-2 victory. Congrats to playoff MVP Justin Vivirito of the SR's, MVG Nate Erb also of the SR's and MVF John Byrd of the Fury. Congrats to the Fury on a great season and 1st time ever in the finals. I look forward to seeing all 9 times (Stingrays up/Top Shelf back down) on SUN, March 6th.

Congrats to the regular season leaders:

Justin Vivirito of the Stingrays with 12 goals and 16 points
Adam Eisenstein of the Loud Mouths with an amazing 1.00 GAA
Kenny Dipasquale of the Fury for leading the goalies with 8 wins
