Rookie Captain Heintz Wins in Debut

Draft season 23 playoffs started off with an upset as Shlivo Shots took down heavily the favored MVPs. Gilbert got the MVP's on the board first for a 1-0 lead after one. Dunn scored 5 minutes into the 2nd to tie the game before Houston scored a SHG to give SS a 2-1 lead after two Gilbert scored again on the PP this time to tie the game with 5 minutes left which sent it to OT. The OT didn't last long tho as Wilt scored just 21 seconds in to give SS the upset victory. The next game featured Webb Masters against Charles in Charge. After a scoreless 1st WM's Fibbi scored in the opening minute of the 2nd before J. Bailey matched it a few minutes after. WM's Trzeciak scored halfway thru the period to give his team a 2-1 lead going to the 3rd. Just 4 minutes into the 3rd CIC's Freimann scored to tie the game up and Isom scored with 5 minutes left to give CIC the win. The 3rd match was the game of the week between top seeded Balls Deep and the 4th seeded (finally played well late in the season) Ginger Revolution. Green got BD on the board first with a PPG 5 minutes in. GR scored the only goal of the 2nd 30 seconds in from Skiavo. GR took the lead 5 minutes into the 3rd and seemed destined for the upset of the top seed but with the goalie pulled and the clock ticking away Mercurio scored a no angle goal from the boards to tie the game and crush GR. A bad cough up by GR 5 minutes into OT landed on the stick of the league's top pick, Young, who took full advantage and buried the game winner for the lucky victory. The last game of the night had Craig's List against Seasons Beatings. Doyle scored a natural hat trick (one off of his head, another off of a leg and one shot in) to give his team a nice 3-0 lead. Wagner scored for SB to cut the lead to 3-1 going to the 3rd. Quinlan scored 2 goals in less than a minute to tie the game at 3 and SB was hoping for that momentum to carry over to OT but Cushing ruined that plan with a goal with a little over a minute left that proved to be the game winner for CL.

The 2nd round started off with a match up between Charles in Charge and Balls Deep. This teams started off with a scoreless first before Mercurio and Young scored in the 2nd to take a 2-0 lead going to the 3rd. Green scored early in the 3rd and CIC never really threatened in this blowout 3-0 victory. Props to Kunin for stepping into the net for the first 5 minutes while Bender was late in traffic. The other game featured Shlivo Shots and Craig's List. CL was ready in the 1st as they scored 2 goals from Currie and Doyle. Turner added another for a 3-0 lead going to the 3rd. SS fought back hard in the 3rd with goals from Dunner and Hawk to make the game exciting. SS pushed hard for the equalizer but couldn't beat Makowsky and Barzilai iced the game with an EN for the 4-2 final.

The finals featured the underdog Craig's List team versus the heavily favored Balls Deep. BD's Green scored the opening goal 8 minutes in for a 1-0 lead after one. CL's captain Turner scored to tie the game at 1 after the 2nd. Young scored to give BD the lead with 5 minutes left in the game. CL didn't flinch and tied the game at 2 with a little over 2 minutes left on a PPG from Benson. The teams finished regulation tied at 2 and went to OT. CL's Van had a great scoring chance in OT but he shot the ball just over the net and BD's Young just missed on a quality scoring chance at the end of the first OT. The teams kept battling in the 2nd OT before a point shot from Gorniak deflected off of Gleeson in front of the net 4 minutes into the 2nd OT and only the ref and a few others realized that the game was over as it was a delayed celebration and a tough way to end a great finals. Congrats to post season MVP Pat Young of BD, MVF Ricky Mercurio also of BD and Justin Doyle from CL for being their postseason MVP. Congrats also to 1st time captain Bob Heintz for winning the Cup and drafting a masterpiece of a team in his first attempt. Always looking for new captains guys so control your own destiny and who you play with by volunteering to captain.

Congrats also to the regular season stat leaders as well: Justin Doyle of Craig's List led the league with 15 goals and 17 points. Mike Bender led the league with 7 wins and a 1.00 GAA.Good luck to all of the players in season 24 which is already underway.
