Back in the Premier League

The D2 Spring Playoffs started off with the 2nd seeded and defensive minded Fury vs the 7th seeded Iced Out. IO's Zander scored with a few minutes left in the 1st for a 1-0 lead after one. IO doubled the lead 3 minutes into the 3rd for what seemed like a solid 2 goal lead. F got on the board with a goal from R. Klink off a lucky bounce off of the ref right to him. Right after a timeout F tied the game on a point shot by Gerber that found it's way through traffic to tie the game at 2 and send it to OT.  IO saved face with a goal late in OT by new father McIlwain to move his team on. The next game was another great one between 4th seeded Stingrays and 5th seeded Blues Brothers. Anderson got BB's on the board first halfway through the first. Denne matched that 6 minutes into the 2nd and Fish gave the SR's the lead a few minutes after that. The lead didn't last long as Anderson scored again for BB's to tie the game up. After a scoreless 3rd the teams went to OT where both teams were denied by Erb and Cuccinelli so since it was the 1st round the teams went to a shootout.  In the SO all 5 BB's players missed their shots (Kourt, Gusto Lawrence, Mahendiran and Anderson) where as the first 3 SR's missed (Grinshtein, Minydzak and Fish) before Denne ended it with a goal and his team the 3-2 victory. The next game had the top seeded Group Therapy against the 8th place Loud Mouths. The LM's came ready to play and scored on back to back breakaway goals from Al-Keliddar and Abraham to take a 2-0 lead after one. GT's Caudana got his team on the board 3 minutes into the 2nd to send the game to the 3rd 2-1. GT kept trying to tie the game up but the LM's Claude ended their hopes with a goal with 3 minutes left and an ENG by Al-Keliddar sealed the upset for the LM's who knocked off the top seed. The last D2 game of week 1 was a high scoring affair between 3rd seeded Heavy Breathers and 6th seeded Top Shelf. HB's scored the first 2 goals from Colombo and D. Feinstein for an early 2-0 lead. M. Esposito scored for TS to make it 2-1 and a few seconds later Drian matched it for HB's. TS scored again in the last minute on a goal from Callaway for an offensive explosion in the 1st period and a 3-2 HB's lead after one. HB's Colombo scored two more goals in the 2nd to complete his hat trick and build his team's lead up to 5-2 after two. J. Esposito tried to get his team back into the game with an early goal in the 3rd but that was the only one that TS could muster in the 3rd in their 5-3 first round loss to HB's. The top tailgating team in week one had to be team Fury who managed to party/cookout from 3-10 for a few of the diehards.

The next round started with the 8th seeded Loud Mouths trying for another upset against 3rd seeded Heavy Breathers. The LM's got off to another great start with goals from captain Quinlan and Claude in the first for a 2-0 lead after one. The LM's dominated the 2nd period but G sub Boyle kept HB's in the game with some great saves and they finally got on the board with a little over a minute left on a goal by P. Feinstein.  HB's carried that momentum into the 3rd as Jake Giovia scored 4 minutes into the 3rd to tie the game up.Neither team could score another goal in regulation and the game went to OT where D2's leading scorer P. Feinstein scored again 6 minutes into the 1st OT to send his team to the finals and sent the upset minded LM's home after a great playoff run. Another D2 game and another OT (4 out of 6 games so far) as the 4th seeded Stingrays took on the 7th seeded Iced Out. Both teams were held scoreless in the first 2 periods by veteran keepers Erb and Tardivo. IO's Zander scored halfway through the 3rd to give his team a 1-0 lead that seemed may stand as the game winner but with Erb pulled for an extra attacker Dove scored the tying goal in the last minute to send the game to OT.  The OT wouldn't last very long tho as Lawson kept the ball in at the point and through a shot at the net and Culligan buried the rebound to give IO the 2-1 OT win.

The finals featured the 7th seeded veteran Iced Out  squad versus the 3rd seeded Heavy Breathers.  The HB's scored a goal 6 minutes in by P. Feinstein from Drian.  IO wasn't fazed and matched that with a goal by McIlwain from Zander to tie the game at 1 after the first.  HB's scored with 5 minutes left in the 2nd as C. Flaherty picked off a clearing pass and ripped a slapshot that gave his team a 2-1 lead after 2. The teams traded chances in the 3rd and there were 2 different mini rain delays that slowed the game down a bit. IO had a few chances late but were denied by HB's keeper Ward and the HB's hung on for a 2-1 victory to send them right back up to D1 after a season of relegation in D2.  Congrats to the post season award winners: HB's Paul Feinstein was named playoff MVP and received his blue performance DCSH shirt. The other awards went to MVD Geoff Hoon of HB's (only give MVP's for players that play all 3 playoff games) and IO's MVP Adam McIlwain.

Congrats to the D2 regular season award winners:

Paul Feinstein of Heavy Breathers led with 15 points
John Dove of Stingrays led with 9 goals
Scott Mitchell of Group Therapy led goalies with 7 Wins
Ben Fiorello of Fury led goalies with a 1.40 GAA

Congrats to all teams and good luck to all 9 teams in D2 in the summer/fall season as Mantis returns and a new team named Grant Thornton tries to make an impression on the league.
