More League Parity in Draft League

The 14th draft league season playoffs started off with what seemed to be an even match up between the 2nd seeded Kill Gil vs. the 3rd seeded Perfect Storm. KG pick off a pass on the opening shift and scored and never looked back taking a 3-0 lead on goals by Marwaha (2) and Houston before Turner scored for PS to make it 3-1. KG scored an EN to take the game 4-1 and send the underachieving PS home from the playoffs early. The 2nd game was the regular season's top team, Queen's Boulevard, vs. last place Read 'Em and Wilt. REAW got on the board 1st on a goal from web master Douglass and held a 1-0 lead in the 3rd before QB's Wilson tied the score up. REAW's Wilt scored off a nice feed from Holland late in the 3rd for the game winner and huge upset. The 3rd game had 1st place Experience Unlimited up against last place and 1 win Manthers. M's played as if they were the top team in unleashing offensive firepower not seen all season in beating EU 5-2 on goals from Malley (2), Dunn (2) and an ENG and 3 assists from Hawk. EU's goals were both scored by Insley. In the last game of the evening we had a match up of the two teams involved in the biggest blockbuster trade in history on draft day between Bobo Time and Mark As Spam. MAS got on the board 1st with a goal from Agostinelli (Gusto) before being matched by BT's O'Keefe for a 1-1 game heading to the 3rd. BT's Gerber threw an innocent point shot that somehow squeezed in for amounted to being the game winning goal in a 2-1 victory as Tarzan gets the better of B-Rob in this trade.

Round 2 had Kill Gil up against the suddenly hot and upset minded Manthers. After a scoreless feel out period of hockey in the 1st KG's Bottorff scored on a pass from Wozny in the 2nd for a 1-0 heading to the 3rd. Though Manthers controlled most of the play throughout the game they just couldn't figure out how to get a shot past KG's Kunin and the game finished 1-0. The next semifinal game between Read 'Em and Wilt and Bobo Time wasn't nearly as exciting as BT scored a SH goal in the 1st by G. Florkowski and never looked back. Two goals by O'Keefe were only matched by REAW goal by Kourt for a 3-1 late in the 3rd. A potential icing turned into a disaster for REAW goaltender Petron as the ball ended up in the net and a goal for Dager and that iced the game. A late goal by G. Florkowski made the final score 5-1. The finals were a match up of 2nd place teams in their respective divisions between Bobo Time and Kill Gil. Everyone in attendance was expecting a defensive battle and that's exactly what they got as the teams trading a few scoring chances in a scoreless first. BT got on the board in the 2nd when G. Florkowski banged in a rebound of a McElwain shot for a 1-0 which BT had going to the 3rd. Goaltenders Kunin and Bender played outstanding in net in keeping the game 1-0. Bender made several big saves in the final minutes combined with a shot off of the post to preserve the 1-0 win and championship for Bobo Time.

Congrats to post season MVP Greg Florkowksi as well as MVG Mike Bender both of Bobo Time and Kill Gil's MVP of the playoffs George Kunin. The commish would like to give a shout out to captain Mike Weissmuller for winning his 5th Cup but 1st as captain. Congrats to the regular season award winners as well: Wayne Barrett (Commish) of Perfect Storm with 19 points, Marc Genest of Mark as Spam with 13 Goals, John Cuocci of Queen's Boulevard and Mike Bender of Bobo Time with 6 wins each and finally John Cuocci again with a league leading 2.10 GAA. I'd also like to wish John Ferreira (2.0) the best of luck in sunny Florida at the end of FEB as John was a huge help to DC Street Hockey and myself. Thanks 2.0, you will be missed...The draft was already held for season 15 so I'd like to wish everyone good luck and thanks to captains past and present for making this league work so well as parity always seems to come through in the playoffs.
