Bucking Fananas Take the Farm

Draft League Season 24 started off with a match up between the team favored to win the league this season, Bucking Fananas, versus TJ''s Hookers.  TJH''s played a solid 1st period keeping the game scoreless but 2 minutes into the 2nd McDonough scored. The teams battled hard and seemed destined to go to the 3rd 1-0 but BF''s Lawson scored a goal with just 24 seconds left in the period to deflate TJH''s.  A goal by Bowser with 5 minutes left sealed the 3-0 win as Bailey posted the shutout. The 2nd game of the night featured  50 Shades of Orange (bad team name) against Jim''s Steak Out. JSO actually scored 1st in this one on a goal by Kalender for a 1-0 lead after one. 50 scored 3 straight goals in the2nd from Green(2) and Bartels for a 3-1 lead after two. Green completed his hat trick and pretty much iced this game a minute into the 3rd for a 4-1 lead. Heavy rain caused the completion of this game to be resumed the following week and JSO weren''t about to let 50 take the win even tho they were down three with just under 9 minutes left. 50 scored 1st with just 2 minutes left in the game to make it 5-1 before Kalender scored another with a minute left to make the final 5-2 in favor of 50. The 3rd game was between Geronimo and 2 Girls 1 Bender. 2G1B scored 1st just 4 minutes into the game for a 1-0 but G''s Zimmerman matched that with a goal halfway through the period to tie the game at 1. Mahtesian scored a goal 8 minutes into the 2nd to give his team a huge 2-1 lead going to the 3rd. A tightly contested 3rd period almost led to a tie game for 2G1B but they couldn''t get the equalizer and G iced the game with 2 ENG''s in the last minute by Zimmerman and Mahtesian for the 4-1 final. The last game of the night was the best one by far as top seeded Anonymous User 47 faced off against last place Minority Report.  AU47 got on the board first on a goal from Skiavo with just over a minute left in the 1st for a 1-0 lead. A cough up by MR led to a breakaway by Sarnoff that he buried for a 2-0 lead. MR''s Wilt scored on a PP with 6 minutes left in the 2nd to cut the lead in half but Jeziorski restored the 2 goal lead a few minutes later. AU47''s Denne scored on a mid court shot that hit off the keeper and went in with 30 seconds left to give his team a huge 4-1 going into the 3rd. MR brought a ton of pressure in the 3rd but couldn''t muster a goal until just under 4 minutes left on a goal from Florkowski. MR scored again with about 2 minutes left on a great deflection by Woodward from Barrett''s shot.  MR had the ball in the offensive zone the last 2 minutes but Hawk hit a post and  MacQuarrie make some huge saves on Wilt and Robinson to win the game and the final whistle blew for a 4-3 victory for AU47.

The second round of the playoffs started off with top seeded Bucking Fananas taking on the underdog 50 Shades of Orange. 50 scored first 12 minutes into the 1st for a 1-0 lead after one. BF''s tied the game up 4 minutes into the 2nd before Currie gave them a 2-1 lead with a little over 5 minutes in the 2nd. 50 wasn''t fazed at all and tied the game at 2 less than a minute later on a goal from Green to send the game to the 3rd tied. In the 3rd 50 had a PP 1/2 way through the period but couldn''t capitalize and BF''s Bowser had a breakaway right after but was denied by Makowsky. The teams traded chances but nothing would go in and the teams went to OT. In what may have been the fastest OT in the Draft League''s history BF''s Bowser ended the game just 20 seconds in and stunned 50 who put up a valiant fight but fell 3-2 in OT. The second game featured Geronimo versus the favored Anonymous User 47. The teams played a defensive 1st period and the best chance was a missed breakaway by G''s Zimmerman. G got on the board first on a goal by Crashley (Ashley) with just under 2 minutes to play for a 1-0 lead after two. AU47 tied the game up on a slow roller from Skiavo halfway through the 3rd. AU''s Denne hit the post right after which would''ve given his team the lead and huge momentum. G''s Zimmerman scored a goal on a great pass from Roby on a 2 on 1 with just over 5 minutes left in the game to give his team a 2-1 lead.  AU47 brought a ton of late pressure and Peich hit the post with a minute and a half late but they couldn''t tie the game up as Webb held the lead for his team and sent them into the finals.

In the finals Geronimo was up against Bucking Fananas and wanted to give them their 2nd loss of the season. BF''s came out ready to play and Bowser scored just 15 seconds into the game to stun G. BF''s kept the momentum going as Hines scored just a few minutes later to give his team an early 2-0 lead. G settled and got out of the 1st down just 2 goals. G finally scored 10 minutes into the 2nd on a goal from Zimmerman to cut the lead in half going to the 3rd. G''s Zimmerman scored another goal just 30 seconds into the 3rd to tie the game up and stun BF''s who thought after their early goals that they would run away with the Championship. The teams exchanged chances for a bit before Bowser struck again for BF''s a little over halfway through the 3rd.  G battled hard the rest of the way but were just too shorthanded, with Roby and Wagner out this week, to tie the game up and they fell 3-2. BF''s finished off a very successful 12-1 season that gave the Draft League Cup to captain and the league''s leading scorer Misha Freimann. Congrats to playoff MVP Tommy Bowser of BF''s, MVG Wes Bailey also of BF''s and MVF Adam Zimmerman of G. The Commish would also like to congratulate Drew Lawson and Pat Young for winning their 6th Cups in league history which puts them 2nd only to Howard Van''s 7.

Congrats to this season''s regular season stat leaders: Misha Freimann led the league with 14 points and Chris Kalender led the league with 11 Goals. Wes Bailey led the league with 9 Wins as well as a 1.30 GAA to sweep the goalie awards.

Good luck to everyone in Draft League Season 25 already underway. Here''s hoping Payne or Peich finally win their 1st Draft League Cup this season. If you are on their teams make it happen and enjoy the after party.
