Draft Day Trade Crucial in League Title

The first playoff game of Draft League Season 25 was between Captain Ken-Garoos and Los Pollos Hermanos. The teams played a scoreless first before CK''s Lafortune scored a PPG halfway through the 2nd. CK''s extended their lead to two a few minutes later on a goal by Kalender for a 2-0 lead after two. LPH finally got on the board with the goalie pulled in the last minute to add excitement to the end of the game. LPH couldn''t get the equalizer and fell 2-1 in a great start to the playoffs. The next game featured the top seeded Bennie and the Vets vs. Menace to Sobriety. MTS''s Fibbi got his team on the board first 5 minutes into the game. MTS''s Lawson extended that lead to two on a back breaking goal with just 9 seconds left in the first. BATV''s league veteran Robinson cut the lead in half just a minute into the 2nd before Freimann tied the game at 2 halfway through the period. MTS''s Juraska regained the lead for his team with 3 minutes left in the 2nd. MTS clinched the game with Fibbi scoring his 2nd of the game for the 4-2 final for the upset. Another division champ, Bring Cash Bitches, took on last place Shotnado who was looking for an upset.  This game was a blowout from the get go as BCB''s Clark scored early and Zimmerman added on for a 2-0 lead after the 1st.  Another goal by Zimm as well as additional ones by Barbarash and Van made this a 5-0 massacre. In the last game of the evening the Hairy Cuoccis took on Shot in the Dark. The teams played a scoreless first before Elfenbein got the HC''s on the board first 5 minutes into the 2nd. Heintz extended that lead for his team just a minute later for a two goal lead after the 2nd. SITD''s Leadston cut the lead in half just 26 seconds into the 3rd and the momentum carried over as Podolsky also scored just a few minutes later to tie the game at 2.  The teams stayed scoreless the rest of the period and the game went to OT. The OT didn''t last long as HC''s Cushing scored just 1:18 in to send his team onto the semi''s in the game of the night.

The semifinals started off with a heavyweight bought between Captain Ken-Garoos and the top seeded Bring Cash Bitches.  The teams played a defensive first which ended scoreless before the captain of CK''s, Sonnenberg, got his team on the board first with 3 1/2 minutes left in the 2nd on a nice feed from Kalender. Their 1-0 lead would hold through most of the period before Kalender iced the game with with 1:21 to play on an assist from Calisti. CK''s Bailey completed the shutout for his team in their 2-0 win to send them onto the championship game. The other game was between Menace to Sobriety versus Hairy Cuoccis.  Both teams were missing 2 of their top picks so the game ended up being more defensive oriented as the teams played to a scoreless 1st. HC''s Cushing got his team on the board first late in the 2nd converting on a 2 on 1 with just 37 seconds left in the period. MTS was unfazed and scored a goal with just 3 seconds left in the period on a great forechecking play that led to a goal by Giovia to tie the game at one. Both teams would be consistently turned away by keepers MacQuarrie and Cucci in the 3rd so the game went to OT. Neither team could convert in OT as none of the quality scoring chances could seem to find the net and the teams went to DOT. The 2nd OT almost turned into a 3rd but in a flurry in front of the net the ball snuck out from under a few sticks and right to Cushing who buried the game winner back door into an almost empty net to end this marathon of a game.

In the finals we had Captain Ken-Garoos vs. Hairy Cuoccis in what was sure to be a great game. CK''s Lafortune showed up for this one and scored to put his team up 1-0 just 4 minutes into the game for a 1-0 lead after the 1st. HC''s Houston scored halfway through the 2nd to tie the game at 1 before Douglass put CK''s back in the lead 2-1 just a few minutes later to take that advantage going into the 3rd. Just a minute into the 3rd Houston scored again for the HC''s on the power play to tie the game at two. The teams traded chances to win the game later in the 3rd but the game would inevitably head to OT tied at two. About halfway through the 1st OT CK''s Lafortune would strike again with the golden goal to clinch the Cup for his team in a quality final. Congrats to playoff MVP Chris Kalender and MVG Wes Bailey, both of CK''s, as well as Colin Cushing who was the MVP of the HC''s great playoff run with 2 playoff OT winners including one in double OT.

Congrats to the regular season league leaders as well: Chris Kalender of KG''s and Kevin Roby of HC''s tied with 17 points each, Craig Turner of MTS led the way with an astounding 12 goals, and Scott Macquarie of HC''s and Mike Bender tied with a 1.50 GAA with a ton of goalies tied in wins. Good luck to everyone in season 26 already 4 games.
